Linking your business IT to the point that matters – face to face with your client. History Electronic Communications Limited was formed in 1979 by Barry Kayes. Over the years several other organisations from Universal Electric to Masters have been involved in the company, with business units being subsumed or interest relinquished in order to focus on other core competencies. By far the longest partner has been Kenny Defontes and Defontes broadcasting a strategic relationship that continues today with the sharing of sites and technical expertise.The company’s core strength has always been in telecommunications technologies. In the early days as much effort was deployed in TV repeater, multi –host and local broadcast technologies as voice communications proper. The company has been focused on delivering innovate cost effective and often unique business solutions to Bermuda. The development of the company through phases led to the deployment of the following core technologies: Trunked radioThe company has also been the father of a number of innovative spin offs. These have included: Quantum – the only competitor to the encumbent phone company. ECL has recently gone through a major change. The company's new President and CEO is Michael Tucker a technologist with un-paralleled experience in delivering customer focused solutions to both the IT and telecoms industries. Michael has enjoyed a long and successful project list in Bermuda from the Police CCTV system, Governments first integrated IP network, the first role out of ADSL to software systems employing radical technologies such as I2. Michael’s work in the 80’s and 90’s included some of the worlds most complex simulation systems, early cellular networks, early fibre deployments and guidance for IT Strategy in Fortune 500 companies.Mantissa Holdings Limited Mantissa Holdings Limited is a Bermudian registered company that invests in technology startups. While the company has interests in a number of Bermudian firms, its primary operating interests are currently in ECL and a software applications company registered in the UK called Mantissa Operations. The Fessenden Connection and Early Voice Radio The family that runs Mantissa Holdings and ECL is no stranger to technology. Ancestors include Reginald Fessenden, the father of voice radio, who made the first voice radio transmission on 24th December 1906. Professor Fessenden who was the first head teacher at the Witney School and married a Bermudian, was responsible for over 500 patents including depth sounders, multi node valves and he launched the first transatlantic radio telex service (not Marconi). Professor Fessenden's great great nephew is ECL's CTO and a partner in Mantissa Operations. Scholarship: The Fessenden Trott Scholarship is available to students in US, Canada and Bermuda.
