Coverage:

Coverage is superior to conventional trunked radio because the system uses multiple sites.  Like cellular coverage there are difficult to find places but the system provides two advantages:
One:  The data service is very robust and often works where other system will not (just like old style pagers).  Text and status messages will often get through when other messaging services dont work.

Two:  If you are working in an area of poor coverage such as in a cliff hanging south shore site, we can provide a repeater base station that will connect the site area into the main network for a fee.  Call us for details.

Message Gateway:

We can provide a messaging gateway to any radio from your corporate PCs.  At a later date we may also provide a web based interface and acknowledgement or repsonse through conventional email.

Why do some Next Generation Radios have SIM Cards:

Part of the latest radio standards provide for a SIM card to store your call directoroes and messages.  The latest radios have SIM cards to enable ECL to "corporatize" your radios.  This way we can upload a common directory, message file and status message formats to any of your new radios as your fleet grows and your needs change.  Similarly, a replacement radio adopts its predessesors details when the SIMcard is inserted - this reduces your down time following a water accident or disaster.  While the SIM card is similar to your cell phone one it may not exchange data with a cell phone.

What makes Next Generation Radio cheaper to run the a cell phone:

All calls within the Next Generation Radio system are free.  We only charge for calls going outside the system.  We can also limit calling patterns on an individual radio basis.  One radio may be authorised for international dialling, while another may only be able to receive voice mail and make group calls within the network.

What is Next Generation Radio by ECL:

Next Generation Radio is the most modern form of digital trunked radio specifically designed to meet business needs.  The radios and system can function as a Two Way Radio, as a pager and like a cell phone.  Businesses can tailor their communications package to meet the needs of individual workers, teams and corporate users.  Some teams may just use the messaging functions, like text.  Others will want to connect their radios direct to their PBX to better manage the customer experience.  Some will desire full cellular functionality.  All radios have voice and text messaging and all may make private calls within the network.  The key difference between a cell phone and this sytem is that we can tailor your service to your needs.  To keep the price down all the cellular services have to be virtually the same.  Also your handset telephone number is actually an extension off a robust PBX.  This is why we can provide voice mail services to every subscriber and yet limit dial in and out capabilities to those who are authorised.

What is Two Way Radio:

Two Way Radio is a form of professional radio that can be used for business communications.  It is particularly good for organisations who despatch teams or in situations where the whole workforce will benefit from hearing the rest of the team.  In Bermuda radios are licensed by Government every 3 years.  This makes the radio cheaper to run than cell phones where the license is deducted from the cell phone bill at $5 per month.

Would the system work for Taxis:

Absolutley.  In fact the system's text messaging  service would be ideal for taxi  dispatch.  Plus the radio in the cab  could allow or disallow local calls as requested on set up.  Many taxi services use this system globally and some use the built in GPS capability (although that can be switched off as desired).  Many of the New York cabs use Nextel which is a service very similar to our Next Generation Radio, in fact some of the radios are almost identical.  The service will always be cheaper to run than cellular ($25 per month all found).
